Rainy Days: Top Annapolis Indoor Activities for a Drizzly Day
We hope that you have nothing but clear skies when you stay with us, but shifts in weather happen – just ask any Marylander. While we wouldn’t blame you at all if you watched the rain come down from the comfort of your FLOHOM, sometimes rainy days offer us a chance to explore a place we haven’t been to before. Here’s a non-exhaustive list of some of the best options for staying dry while having fun on a rainy day.
1. Take a tour the Maryland State House
Nestled in the center of the city, the Maryland State House is just one of Annapolis’ impressive historic relics. Completed in 1779, it was America’s first peacetime capital and is the oldest state house still in legislative use today. The site of events such as George Washington’s resignation as commander-in-chief and the ratification of the Treaty of Paris, its rich history and magnificent architecture earned the State House its status as a National Historic Landmark in 1960. The State House is open to the public daily from 8:30am to 5pm (with the exception of Christmas and New Year’s Day), and has self guided tours available.

2. Check out the Annapolis Maritime Museum
Not only does the Annapolis Maritime Museum and Park have a wonderful location and venue, they’re such an important part of the region due to their outstanding commitment to the preservation of history. Since 1990, their exhibitions and programs educate people about the Annapolis area’s rich maritime heritage and the ecology of the Chesapeake Bay. The museum campus is actually the site of the last historic oyster packaging plant in the area, the McNasby Oyster Company. They have a range of rotating exhibits in addition to interactive installations and aquariums, all of which showcase the unique culture created by life on the Bay.

3. Attend a performance at the Colonial Players of Annapolis
Founded in 1949 by a group of Annapolis thespians, the Colonial Players offers a wide variety of dramatic productions in the heart of downtown. More than a theater, the Colonial Players is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with a mission to encourage and enlighten volunteers and patrons through purposeful theatrical and educational opportunities. Their regular seasons include classic, contemporary, and cutting edge comedies, dramas, and musicals that reflect a yearly theme (2023 will be their 74th season entitled “Secrets and Lies”). 4. Tour the Historic Hammond-Harwood House
This National Historic Landmark was built in 1774 as the final work of renowned architect William Buckland, and is considered the finest example of Anglo-Palladian architecture. New pieces that highlight historical figures and events connected to the house are curated on a yearly basis, with the exception of their feature on enslaved people at Hammond-Harwood House, which remains a permanent exhibit. They also host a variety of special events for all ages, including spotlight tours designed to immerse you in the location as if you lived there. Another thing we love? 5. Catch a show at Rams Head On Stage
It’s not hard to find live music in Annapolis with local musicians playing at a number of bars regularly, but if you want to catch a real show, Rams Head On Stage is absolutely the place to do it. This intimate venue is considered by many to be one of the top under 500 seats music club in the country, and is graced by a wide variety of talents both well known and more obscure. Enjoy food and drinks with table service while taking in a show in this beautiful downtown Annapolis venue.
